Is it just me or is adulthood terrifying? After being taken care of by your parents for the longest time you are just left to figure life out for yourself. They have done their part after all. The time now comes for you to navigate life for yourself. Make your own decisions. You’d think there’d be a manual for it. But eeerr nope, there ain’t none ‘o that! All of a sudden you are faced with so many choices and options on how to do life. From the type of career you should follow to the type of ways you can earn an extra income to the type of spouse you should go for. One word- daunting.
Some of us after some years as an adult- a young adult- you feel like you are stagnant. You have been trying this or that but you do not seem to be making any progress. You feel like maybe for you to make progress you need to copy the ways and path of your best friend. Maybe just maybe you may get some breakthrough. You begin to distrust your choices thus far. So you begin to follow other people’s paths. But you don’t even know where they are leading to. And if you are like me, you know deep down in your heart following any path apart from your own will not fulfil you. Well, if that’s the case I hope the ideas I have written below will give you renewed strength to follow your own path. Read on.
Following your path allows God to show His creativity
It’s no secret that we’re all different. We reason and think differently. The way we approach our health if different. The choices we make with our money are different. It is all affected by our different backgrounds, what we’ve been exposed to, our associations, and the information accessible to us. It also has to do with our personalities and what God lays in our hearts to do. So God can never really show Himself fully in our unique selves if we decided to do what our best friend is doing. God is infinite and He created us all differently for a purpose. By walking your path, you allow your calling to mature and grow into what it was meant to become. I have a friend who recently told me that God placed so strongly in her heart that she must quit sugar. I can attest that this decision is doing wonders for her. I would also recommend people to cut down their sugar intake but see, one must do that for simple health reasons but not because someone else is doing it. Maybe you actually need to quit something different that God would lay in your heart. So be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit so that you do what YOU need to do. Then you will see it all blossoming into something beautiful. Let the world see just how creative God can be with your life. I imagine God winces when you choose to copy someone else’s path. Because when you copy you rob Him the opportunity to do what He wanted to do with you. What a waste! Brave up and do what you need to do. Who knows whose heart you will touch when you walk your lane?
Resist the resistance to walk your path
I used to think that once I discovered my purpose it would be smooth sailing. I thought that once I started what I love doing that it would be easy. No one told me that there would be days I feel unmotivated to do what I love! Can you imagine the irony? I didn’t know that I would still have to sweat to get the work done. I thought all parts of it would be easy. I thought I would be thrilled about every single aspect of it. I was so wrong. Soon I realized that even our passions need the H word (hard work) to be pursued. The resistance had to be resisted.
Your path is somebody’s answer
I can’t overemphasize the immense encouragement that certain people walking their paths have been in my life. Just when you feel like giving up, an instagram post or blog entry from them just picks you up and you keep going again. That’s what people need from you. When you walk your path, you may find that you are somebody’s answer. You may find that you are a solution to some of the world’s problems.
